Assess the risk of Diabetes in five minutes

Research published in the annals of internal medicine brings one step closer to doctors to predict risk of type 2 diabetes, through a simple system of questions and answers rather than blood tests. By answering questions about 10 and count your score, people taking the test can obtain a relatively accurate assessment of your risk and determine what so urgent is to take preventive measures.

Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? Answer these 10 questions to find out:

1. Do have a diabetic mother? 13 points if yes

2. Do have a diabetic father? 8 points if yes

3. Do have hypertension? 11 points if yes

4. Are African American? 6 points if yes

5. Do this 55 to 64 years? 5 points if yes

7. What is the circumference of the waist in inches?
Less than 32 inches = 0 points
32 less than 35 inches = 10 points
35 less than 38 inches = 20 points
38 less than 41 inches = 26 points
41 inch or larger = 35 points

8. What is your height in inches?
Less than 62 inches = 8 points
62 less than 63 inches = 6 points
63 less than 64 inches = 3 points
64 inches or more = 0 points

9. What is your beats rest heart rate per minute? (To find out, count the beats sitting quietly for about 60 seconds).
73 bpm or less = 0 points
More than 73 bpm = 5 points

10. What is its weight in pounds?
Less than 160 = 0 points
More than 160 = 5 points

Add up your total score:
20 points or less: You have about 5 percent of risk for diabetes type 2 in the next 10 years.
21-32 points: You have about a 9 percent risk for diabetes type 2 in the next 10 years.
33/42 points: has about 16 per cent of risk for diabetes type 2 in the next 10 years.
43/54 points: It has about 25 percent of risk for diabetes type 2 in the next 10 years.
More than 55 points: You have about 33 per cent of risk for diabetes type 2 in the next 10 years.
